Earl E. Lockwood, 84, died at 7:55 a.m. Sept. 1, 2010, at Cridersville Health Care, Cridersville.

He was born Nov. 8, 1925, in Wells County, Ind., to Edwin and Iva Lavina Dyson Lockwood, who preceded him in death. He had been married to Caroline E. Kuder, who survives in Bloomington, Ind.

Mr. Lockwood was owner and operator of Lost Creek Nursery and Fruit Market. He was a 1943 graduate of Lima Central High School. He was the former owner of Elida Road Fruit Market. He had been the youngest Realtor in the state of Ohio and worked in 1947 with Lockwood Realty. He had been instrumental in the planning and appraising of Interstate 75, the Allen County Airport and OSU-Lima. He had operated the Auglaize County Credit Bureau and had taught at Apollo Career Center. Even though he was legally blind, he continued to read the paper until about two weeks ago. He was proud of his children and grandchildren, whom he treasured.

He was a nature lover, very knowledgeable, had been called a walking encyclopedia and loved telling a good story. He appreciated visiting with people and playing the piano. He will be remembered for being a jokester, his great sense of humor and being a hard worker. His hobby was his vocation, which he continued as long as he was able.

Survivors also include his companion, Anna B. Selfridge, of Lima; three children, Marcia E. Cole, of Burlington, Ky., Robert A. “Bob” (Janice) Lockwood, of Lima, and Laura J. (Michael) Lugibihl, of Elida; six grandchildren, Alicia, Christy, Emily, Alexander, Faith and Jacob Lugibihl; three stepgrandchildren, Donald Miller, Danielle Thompson and Douglas Miller; five stepgreat-grandchildren; and a sister-in-law, Dorothy Lockwood, of Cridersville.

He was preceded in death by a brother, Dale Lockwood; and a sister, Fern (Eugene) Hoverman.

Services will begin at 10:30 a.m. Friday at Bayliff & Son Funeral Home, Cridersville. Pastor Jim Neighbors will officiate. Burial will be in Woodlawn Cemetery, Lima.

Friends may call from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday and 9 a.m. until time of services Friday at the funeral home.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Allen County 4-H, the Boy Scouts of America or Master Gardeners of Lima.
