Lima
Virgil L. Conner, 82, died at 6:40 a.m. Aug. 26, 2008, at Baton Rouge Senior Health Services Community.
He was born May 6, 1926, in Whitwell, Tenn., to Brock and Grace Conner, who preceded him in death. On Sept. 17, 1946, he married M. Marilyn Davis, who survives in Lima.
Mr. Conner retired from Ford Motor Co. Lima Engine Plant. He was a member of New Creation Lutheran Church. He had played with the Lima Symphony Orchestra, the Lima Area Concert Band and played dance music with several area bands. He was a member of Fraternal Order of Eagles Aerie 370 and Garrett Wykoff Lodge 585 Free & Accepted Masons. He enjoyed flying model airplanes, reading and playing softball and golf. He was an Army veteran of World War II.
Survivors also include a son, Gene L. Conner, of Alger; four granddaughters, Dawn M. (Roger) Justice, Danielle L. (John Heare) Conner, Linda Ann (Gregory) Corbitt and Stacey L. Conner; a sister, June (Bob) Dalrymple, of Las Vegas; a sister-in-law, Marna Conner, of Bowling Green; a brother-in-law, Harry Powell, of Indian Lake; and eight great-grandchildren, Scott Mort, Richard Mort, Brent Conner, Jayden Howell, Briana Volkert, Giorgiana Corbitt, Katelyn Justice and Matthew Justice.
He was preceded in death by three brothers, Ray, Paul and John Conner; and two sisters, Marcella Powell and Janet Furr.
Services will begin at 11 a.m. Friday at Chiles-Laman Funeral Homes, Shawnee Chapel. Pastor Samuel S. Payne will officiate. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery, with military rites by Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1275.
Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home, where a Masonic service will be held at 8 p.m.
