John B. Raesky, 85, died at 2:30 a.m. Jan. 29, 2012, at his residence in Lima.

He was born March 24, 1926, in Wapakoneta, to Jacob and Florentina Sciranka Raesky, who preceded him in death. On Jan. 31, 1953, in St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church, Lima, he married Martha Howell, who survives.

Mr. Raesky served in the U.S. Army from June 4, 1944, to May 30, 1946. He received the EAME Theater Ribbon with two bronze stars, a Good Conduct Medal, Victory Medal, World War II Meritorious Unit Award and Occupation Medal (Germany). He retired from Ford Motor Co. after 31 years. He was a member of St. Gerard Catholic Church, American Legion Post 96 and Fraternal Order of Eagles Aerie 370, all of Lima.

Survivors also include a son, Mark (Robin) Raesky, of Lima; a daughter, Kristen Reynolds, of Lima; three grandchildren, Heather (Perry) Beko, of Fort Wayne, Ind., and Nicholas Reynolds and Jacob Raesky, both of Lima; and a brother, Anthony Raesky, Lima.

He was preceded in death by two brothers, Joseph and Donald Raesky; and two sisters, Veronica LaRue and Claire Hoot.

A private service will be conducted at the convenience of the family. Burial will be in St. Joseph Cemetery, Wapakoneta, with military rites by Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1275, of Lima.

Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Chamberlain-Huckeriede Funeral Home.

Instead of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Gerard Catholic Church Flower Fund, 240 W. Robb Ave., Lima, OH 45801, or St. Rita's Hospice, 959 W. North St., Lima, OH 45805.
