Lima

Oren E. Dickason, 95, died at 4:20 a.m. Jan. 6, 2009, at Lima Convalescent Home.

He was born Aug. 29, 1913, in Lima to Oren and Bertha Dicus Dickason, who preceded him in death. On Dec. 29, 1939, he married Margaret S. Steiner, who preceded him in death.

Mr. Dickason was a lawyer and had practiced law in Lima for 65 years and had been an adjunct professor of law at Ohio Northern University, Ada. He was a member of Trinity Methodist Church, where he served as president of the board of trustees. He was a member of the Allen County, Ohio State and American bar associations. He had served as president of the Allen County Bar Association and was a member of the Probate and Trust Law Committee of the Ohio State Bar Association. He served as president of the Central Savings Association and was a founding trustee of the Lima Symphony Orchestra. He served on the board of trustees of the West Ohio Conference of the United Methodist Church and as chairman of the Section of Higher Education and Campus Ministries.

He volunteered as president of the Shawnee Council, with the Boy Scouts of America, as trustee of the YWCA and YMCA. He was a trustee for Baldwin-Wallace College for 22 years, where he received an honorary Doctor of Laws degree in 1993. He was a 68-year member of Lodge 205 Free & Accepted Masons. He was a member of Scottish Rite Valley of Toledo, the Lima Shrine Club, Chapter 49 Royal Arch Masons and Council 20 Royal & Select Masons. He received his law degree from Ohio Northern University.

Survivors include a son, Miner (Meg) Dickason, of Lima; a daughter, Anne (Joe) Groth, of Portland, Ore.; and a special friend, Eileen Flynn, of Lima.

He was preceded in death by two brothers, Morris and Paul Dickason.

Private family graveside service will be held in Woodlawn Cemetery. The Rev. David Harris will officiate.

There will be no visitation.
