Richard Lee “Dick” Hanefeld, 63, died at 6:45 a.m. Nov. 7, 2009, at St. Rita’s Medical Center.
He was born April 10, 1946, in Continental to George and Mildred Parker Hanefeld. His mother preceded him in death; his father survives in Ottawa.
Mr. Hanefeld retired in 1989 after 25½ years with GM Powertrain in Defiance. He was a member of United Auto Workers union Local 211. He was a co-founder of D&D Putting and Amusements in 1982. He was a member of various bowling leagues and the Continental Golf League. He loved to fish, bowl and golf. He was an avid Ohio State fan and Detroit Lions and Tigers fan. He was like a big brother and father figure to many in the community.
Survivors also include two brothers, Donald (Carolyn) Hanefeld, of Defiance, and Dennis (Kim) Hanefeld, of Continental; a sister, Ruth Everett, of Bluffton; three nephews, Doug (Deb) Hanefeld, Austin Loper, and Dylan Hanefeld; three nieces, Leigh Ann Everett, Richelle Hanefeld, and Keanna Hanefeld; and a great-niece, Jessica Hanefeld.
Services will begin at 11 a.m. Monday at Heitmeyer Funeral Home, Continental. Wayne Matthews will officiate. Burial will be in Monroe Cemetery, Continental.
Friends may call from 2 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.
Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society or a charity of the donor’s choice.
