Robert James King, 82, of Sun City Center, Fla., formerly of Lima, died Aug. 9, 2010, at his residence with his wife and daughter at his side.

He was born May 8, 1928, in Lima to Paul S. and Helen L. King Sr., who preceded him in death. He had been married to Patricia Way, whom he married in 1950, and she died in 2007. In 1967, he married Joan Vivian Phillips, who survives.

Mr. King was a 1946 graduate of Lima Central High School, where he played cornet in the band and was drum major his junior and senior years. He received his bachelor’s degree in chemical engineering from The Ohio State University, where he played cornet for four years in the OSU marching band and attended a Buckeyes game in the Rose Bowl with the band. In 1950, he and his first wife moved to Wilmington, Del., where he worked for DuPont Chemical Co. He and his family were later transferred to Costa Mesa, Calif. Several years later, with the children grown and gone, he and his second wife were sent to Sydney for five years. They were able to travel extensively, returning home each year to visit family. The traveling continued until his retirement from DuPont and move to Florida.

Survivors include three daughters, Kris (Dave) Evans, of Prosper, Texas, Terry (Dennis) Hall, of Oklahoma City, and Toni King, of Westerville; a son, Mark (Tina) King, of Prescott Valley, Ariz.; two stepsons, Rob (Maryam) Phillips and Jeff Phillips, both of Pennsylvania; a sister, Ruth Jean Haman, of Lima; and 14 grandchildren, six great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by a brother Paul S. King Jr.
