    James D. Kincaid, 86, died at 5:55 p.m. Nov. 13, 2009, at Lima Convalescent Home.

    He was born Feb. 26, 1923, in Blue Ridge, Ga., to James and Blanche Higdon Kincaid, who preceded him in death. On Dec. 28, 1945, he married Anna R. Langle, who died Aug. 4, 2009.

    Mr. Kincaid retired as a painter from Tilton Corp. He was a Navy veteran of World War II serving from 1942 to 1946 in the Dutch West Indies and the South Pacific. During his training at Great Lakes, Ill., he was asked to audition for singing in the Great Lakes Navy Choir. He then became a Navy deep-sea diver and played a role in the 1946 atomic bomb test on the island of Eniwetok in the Marshall Island group in the South Pacific. He was a member of First Evangelical and Reform Church, where he was the church historian from 1988 to 1993, and served on the church consistory for several years as a deacon, trustee and elder. He was also a member of its Sunday school and Builders Class. He was a member of Benevolent & Protective Order of Elks Lodge 54 and Fraternal Order of Eagles Aerie 370.

    Survivors include a son, James J. (Kim) Kincaid, of Columbus Grove; two daughters, Kathy A. (Dennis) Stump, of Lima, and Karen Sheets, of Columbus; four grandchildren, Adam Sheets, Jamie Sheets, Joseph Kincaid and Meredith Kincaid; a brother, Walter “Hig” (Rose) Kincaid, of Lima; and a sister-in-law, Trudi Riegle, of Lima.

    He was preceded in death by two brothers, Eugene and Kemper Kincaid.

    Services will begin at 10 a.m. Friday at First Evangelical and Reform Church. The Rev. Edward Rinehart will officiate. Entombment will be in Memorial Park Cemetery Mausoleum.

    Friends may call from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Chamberlain-Huckeriede Funeral Home.
