Kathleen M. “Kathy” Denison

Kathleen M. “Kathy” Denison, 86, died at 8:11 p.m. Jan. 1, 2010, at Lima Memorial Health System.

She was born July 21, 1923, in North Baltimore to Earl Leonard and Clara Culver Jordan, who preceded her in death. On March 1, 1953, she married Eugene J. “Denny” Denison, who died Sept. 16, 2009.

Mrs. Denison had been a teacher for Vaugnsville schools for three years and Lima schools for 28 years, retiring in 1982. She was a member of South Side Christian Church, AAUW and the Lima Memorial Hospital Auxiliary, for which she volunteered more than 5,000 hours. She was also a member of Allen County Retired Teachers, Ohio State Retired Teachers Association and AARP. She was past president of the Allen County Reading Association. She received a bachelor’s of science and master’s degree in education from Bowling Green State University. She was a past member of Delta Kappa Gamma and Gamma Phi Beta sororities and a past member of the Child Assault Prevention Program. She taught Sunday school for 28 years and served on the Consistory at Calvary United Church of Christ. She enjoyed tutoring after her retirement. She also loved spending time with her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren and her friends at Primrose.

Survivors include a son, Bruce W. (Deb) Denison, of Cloverdale; two daughters, Virginia L. “Ginny” Erb, of West Jefferson, and Barbara J. “Barb” (Rick Robinson) Hollar, of Lima; six grandchildren, Jayme Erb, Brandon (Sarah) Erb, Kristina “Kristy” (Chad) Warris, Jason Hollar, Melissa “Missy” Davenport and Justin (Heather) Hollar; and 10 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by two brothers, William W. and Lloyd J. Jordan; a son-in-law, Vern Hollar; and a brother and a sister-in-law, Kenneth and Maxine Denison.

Services will begin at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Chiles-Laman Funeral Homes, Shawnee Chapel. The Rev. Douglas Adams and the Rev. Wanda Werking will officiate. Entombment will be in Memorial Park Mausoleum, Lima.

Friends may call from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.

Memorial contributions may be made to Lima Memorial Health System or Lima schools Scholarship Fund.
