H.R. “Jim” McKinley

Lima

H.R. “Jim” McKinley, 78, formerly of Spencerville, died at 1:10 p.m. Dec. 9, 2009, at Lima Memorial Health System, surrounded by his loving family.

He was born Jan. 26, 1931, in Union City, Ind., to Harold P. and Evelyn Strohl McKinley, who preceded him in death. On Jan. 19, 1951, he married Susan F. Lee, who died Sept. 16, 1997. On May 6, 2000, he married Anna Mae Kantner Hunt, who survives.

Mr. McKinley was a 1949 graduate of Spencerville High School. He was an Army veteran of the Korean War, serving as a corporal. He had worked for Labor Union 329, Lima, Rawl’s and the Division of Standard, Lima. He retired from production control at Ohio Decorative Products, Spencerville. He was a life member and former vice commander at Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 6772 and a member of American Legion Post 191, both in Spencerville. He liked to play cards and golf.

Survivors also include three sons, Gary R. McKinley, of Lima, Dewey P. (Kathy) McKinley, of Cridersville, and Gregory A. (Darcey) McKinley, of Perrysburg; two stepchildren, Linda (Don) Hooks and Thomas Hunt, both of Lima; nine grandchildren, Jaret (Brenda) McKinley, of Spencerville, Jacob (Lydia) McKinley, of Lima, Shelly Paige, of Atlanta, Amber (Mark) Nichols, of Toledo, Joshua McKinley, of Cridersville, Jessica (Bob) Padgett, of Lima, Grace McKinley, of Cridersville, and Coe McKinley and Austin McKinley, both of Perrysburg; two stepgrandchildren, Jay Steinke and Todd (Michelle) Steinke, both of Cridersville; nine great-grandchildren, Corbin, Kadin and Adelyn McKinley, Ella and Caylin Padgett, Taylor Walker and Lorelei, Alyssa and Tiana Paige; three stepgreat-grandchildren, Cole, Gage and Lane Steinke; a sister, Mary Lee, of Spencerville; and a sister-in-law, Betty McKinley, of Lima.

He was preceded in death by a son, James F. McKinley; a great-granddaughter, Paige McKinley; and five siblings, Joe and Bill McKinley, Maggie Boley, Betty Armetage and Pat Church; and a daughter-in-law, June McKinley.

Services will begin at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Thomas E. Bayliff Funeral Home, Spencerville. Pastor Terry Brock will officiate. Burial will be in Spencerville Cemetery, with military rites by Spencerville veterans.

Friends may call from 2 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Memorial contributions may be made to Putnam County Hospice.
