James J. “Jim” Parlette

Cridersville - James J. “Jim” Parlette, 77, died at 6:05 a.m. Nov. 19, 2009, at his residence.
He was born Dec. 13, 1931, in Lima to Waldo I. and Emerald A. Schlesselman Parlette, who preceded him in death. On Sept. 4, 1954, he married Lois R. “Sarge” Bowers, who survives in Cridersville.
Mr. Parlette was a Army veteran of the Korean War, where he served as a medic in four major battles and received the Purple Heart. He will be remembered as a loving son, husband, and father, who dearly loved his grandchildren. He was known for his tremendous sense of humor, quick witted responses and entertaining personality. His willingness to sacrifice for others had no limits. Holidays, family traditions and memories were a focal point of his life and those who knew and loved him are richer for it. He had operated several gun clubs in the area. He was a member of the Amateur Trap Shooting Association. He loved woodworking, hunting, fishing and cook-outs with friends and family at Indian Lake. He retired in 1981 from Superior Coach, after 31 years, and had owned and operated Parlette’s Custom Upholstery.
Survivors also include a son, James I. (Bev) Parlette, of Wapakoneta; a daughter, Jody E. (Roger) Miller, of Wapakoneta; three grandchildren, Nicole R. (fiancé Justin Taylor) Parlette, James J. “Jim” (fiancée Brittany Hunnaman) Parlette and Allen J. (Kriston Davis) Miller.
He was preceded in death by two brothers, Waldo I. Jr. and Jack Parlette; two sisters, June Sampson and Betty Rodney; and a grandson, Roger A. Miller II.
Graveside services will begin at 11:30 a.m. Monday in St. Matthew Cemetery, Cridersville. James Loughrin will officiate.
Friends may call from 3 to 8 p.m. Sunday at Chiles-Laman Funeral Homes, Shawnee Chapel.
