Delphos
Herbert A. “Herb” Vonderembse, 81, of Sun City Center, Fla., formerly of Delphos, died at 3:10 a.m. Nov. 26, 2009, at his residence, surround by family, following a brief illness.
He was born Feb. 6, 1928, in Delphos to Edward J. and Nellie May Wade Vonderembse, who preceded him in death. On Dec. 10, 1977, he married Marjorie Ann Barber-Sampson, who survives. She was his loving wife for 32 years.
Mr. Vonderembse was a graduate of Delphos St. John’s High School and Northwestern Business College, Lima. He retired in 1986 as an internal auditor for Marathon Oil Co. He was an Army veteran, serving as a master sergeant during the Korean War. He was a member of the Tandem Club of America, the Tampa Bay Freewheelers, the Computer Club, the Genealogy Club and the Ohio Club in Florida. He had been a member of Hancock Handlebars and the Conservation Club, Findlay. He was a loving brother, husband and father. He enjoyed spending time with his nieces, nephews and grandchildren and taking family pictures. He also enjoyed traveling the country in his motor home, but mostly, he was an avid cyclist and enjoyed riding with his many cycling friends. He was a member of Prince of Peace Catholic Church, Sun City Center, Fla., and had been a member of St. Michael the Archangel Catholic Church, Findlay. He had been a member of Knights of Columbus Council 957, Findlay.
Survivors include three daughters, Sharon (Sher) Jackson, of Stedman, N.C., Ann (Kevin) Cupp, of Arlington, and Connie (Joe) Horstman, of Findlay; nine grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; and a sister, Donna (Robert) Holdgreve, of Delphos.
He was preceded in death by four brothers, Eugene, Carl, Paul and John Vonderembse; a sister, Leona Wreede; and a grandson, Scott Jackson.
Mass of Christian Burial will begin at 11 a.m. Saturday at St. Michael the Archangel Catholic Church, Findlay. Father Chris Bohnsack will officiate. Burial will be in the church cemetery, with military rites by Hancock County Veterans Memorial Squad.
Friends may call from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at Kirkpatrick-Behnke Funeral Home, Findlay, where a rosary service will be held at 7:45 p.m.
