Helen C. Beaman, 82, died at 10:14 a.m. Sept. 29, 2009, at Hardin Memorial Hospital, Kenton.

She was born March 14, 1927, in McGuffey to Eugene and Doris Holcomb Scott, who preceded her in death. On July 22, 1945, she married William R. “Bill” Beaman, who died Feb. 5, 2005.

Mrs. Beaman grew up in McGuffey and the surrounding marsh. She often told stories about topping onions and was quick to tell people she was a “marsh rat and proud of it.” After high school, she graduate from Bliss Business College. During World War II, she was an administrative assistant at Wright-Patterson Air Force Base. She had been a dispatcher for the Hardin County Sheriff’s Office for almost 40 years, serving under four sheriffs. She had also worked in advertising at the Kenton Times newspaper. She had been a volunteer at Hardin Memorial Hospital, Kenton. She immensely enjoyed her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Her favorite thing was to follow her children’s, grandchildren’s and great-grandchildren’s various sporting events and other endeavors. Her favorite way to relax was to get in her car and drive the countryside looking over the crops.

Survivors include six children, William E. (Alice) Beaman, of Kenton, Brice (JoEllen) Beaman, of Alger, Brent Beaman, of Heath, Brad Beaman, of Kirtland, Barth (Erica) Beaman, of Columbus, and Bryan (Lynn) Beaman, of Alger; two daughters, Barbara Beaman, of Kenton, and Becky (Don) Diglia, of Elida; a daughter-in-law, Joni Beaman, of Klamath Falls, Ore.; 27 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; two sisters, Barbara Smith, of Bellefontaine, and Nancy (Gene) Manns, of Chandler, Ariz.; and two very special friends, David (Peg) Wright and Felix (Francis) Poe, both of Kenton.

She was preceded in death by a son, Dr. Robert P. Beaman; and a grandson, J.W. Ralston.

A celebration of life will begin at 2 p.m. Friday at Hanson-Neely Funeral Home, Alger. Pastor Ron Briggs will officiate.

Friends may call from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. today and until time of services Friday at the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Hardin County Fire Association, c/o Kenton Fire Department, 225 S. Main St., Kenton, OH 43326.
