Clark W. Hefner, 86, died at 11 p.m. Sept. 4, 2009, at Springview Manor, Lima.
He was born Jan. 18, 1923, in Lima to Jesse W. and Ora A. Fetter Hefner, who preceded him in death. On April 27, 1957, he married Phyllis C. Centers, who died Dec. 29, 2005.
Mr. Hefner was a graduate of Harrod School. He was a member of Heidelberg Reformed Church, where he served as a deacon and elder for many years. He was a member of the school board at Allen East School. He proudly served in the U.S. Army in the Philippines from Nov. 6, 1944, to Nov. 21, 1946, becoming a sergeant on Aug. 26, 1946. He was a lifelong farmer, receiving the distinction of an outstanding co-operator of the Allen County Soil and Water Conservation District. He enjoyed helping his children with their farms for as long as he could. He never knew a stranger and always made time for his grandchildren.
Survivors include two sons, Jim C. (Cindy A.) Hefner and Scott A. (Christina M.) Hefner, both of Lima; a daughter, Janet C. (Terry L.) Dotson, of Harrod; six grandchildren, Josh (Becky) Dotson, Renee’ Dotson, Kory Hefner, Melissa Hefner, Kevin Hefner and Charlee Hefner; and a sister-in-law, Blanche Hefner, of Lima.
He was preceded in death by four brothers, Bryan, Raymond and Herb Hefner, and Dwight Holman; and a sister, Christine Hefner.
Services will begin at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Chiles-Laman Funeral Homes, Lewis Eastside Chapel. Pastor Bob Pepple will officiate. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery, Lima, with military rites by Veterans of Foreign Wars.
Friends may call from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday and 10 to 11 a.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.
Memorial contributions may be made to Heidelberg Reformed Church or a charity of the donor’s choice.
