Frederick D. “Bud” Veit, 79, died at 6:45 a.m. Aug. 10, 2009, at Joint Township District Memorial Hospital, St. Marys.
He was born Jan. 15, 1930, in Wapakoneta to Conrad “Coonie” and Helen Burden Veit, who preceded him in death. On May 16, 1953, he married Maxine M. “Max” Garrett, who survives.
Mr. Veit was a self-employed cabinet maker and carpenter. He had worked at R.F. Stolte Builders, Wapakoneta. He was a 1948 graduate of Blume High School, Wapakoneta. He was an Army veteran serving during the Korean War. He was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, Wapakoneta. He was a member of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 8445 and American Legion Post 330, both in Wapakoneta, and AMVETS Post 39, Lakeview. He enjoyed cooking.
Survivors also include three children, Vicki (Gary) Umphress, of Van Buren, William “Bill” Veit, of Lenore, N.C., and Bobby (Lisa) Veit, of Wapakoneta; eight grandchildren, Casey (Jeannie) Ricker, Travis Ricker, Liz (Jordan) Pieniazek, Falon Veit, Barrett Veit, Skylar Veit, Megan Veit and Chloe Veit; four grandchildren; a sister, Carolyn (John) Butcher, of Kingman, Ariz.; and a sister-in-law, Mildred “Midge” Veit, of Wapakoneta.
He was preceded in death by a brother, Conrad “Jim” Veit; and a sister, Lois “Tete” Mick.
Services will begin at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at Bayliff & Eley Funeral Home, Wapakoneta. The Rev. Patrick Sloneker will officiate. Burial will be in St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery, Wapakoneta, with military rites by VFW Post 8445.
Friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday and one hour prior to services Thursday at the funeral home.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Auglaize County Cancer Association.
