Lester V. Fleming, 90, died at 3:30 p.m. Sept. 13, 2009, at Richland Manor Nursing Home, Bluffton.
He was born March 2, 1919, in Allen County to John W. and Bertha Binkley Fleming, who preceded him in death. On June 8, 1940, he married Evelyn E. Wright, who survives in Lafayette.
Mr. Fleming was a dairy farmer. He was a member of St. Mark Lutheran Church, Ada. He was a 1937 graduate of Lafayette-Jackson High School. He had served as a Jackson Township trustee for 28 years and as a trustee for United Rural Electric/Mid Ohio Energy for 19 years. He had served as president of the Allen County Farm Bureau and as a manager of the milk tent at the Allen County Fair. He was on the county committee for the Allen County ASCS and a member of the Allen County Dairy Service Unit. He was an Army veteran of World War II.
Survivors include three sons, Thomas J. (Sharon) Fleming, of Harrod, Daniel (Linda) Fleming, of Bluffton, and John L. (Deb) Fleming, of Lafayette; two daughters, Martha (Kenneth) Fitzpatrick, of Springfield, Va., and Joan Fleming, of Lima; a daughter-in-law, Jane (Ken) Madden, of Sidney; four sisters, Elsie Rader, of Lima, Betty Hawk, of Lafayette, Gladys Wagner, of Findlay, and Laura Jean (Dan) Holyoak, of Moab, Utah; and nine grandchildren, five stepgrandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren and 10 stepgreat-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a son, David Fleming; four sisters, Mabel Fleming, Dorothy Lambert, Helen Fleming and Edith Stager; and five brothers, Walter, Guy, Ralph, Clarence and Gerald Fleming.
Services will begin at 11 a.m. Thursday at St. Mark Lutheran Church, Ada. Pastor David Coffin will officiate. Burial will be in Desenberg Cemetery, Harrod.
Friends may call from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Hanson-Neely Funeral Home, Ada, and one hour prior to services Thursday at the church.
