Lima Senior grad receives fellowship
Dr. Jeremy Heffner, a Lima Senior graduate, has been named as recipient of the Trauma Research Fellowship 2012 from the Eastern Association for the Surgery of Trauma sponsored by Lifecell. This $40,000 award will be used for Heffner’s research involving adult stem cells titled: "Mesenchymal Stem Cells and Platelet-Rich Plasma Therapy using a Porcine Small Intestine Submucosa Delivery System for Treatment of Burn Wounds." Heffner previously won the 2010 American Hernia Society/Lifecell Resident research award for $25,000, which supported his work studying mesenchymal stromal cells to improve fascial repair. He holds a bioengineering degree from the University of Toledo and medical degree from the University of Cincinnati College of Medicine. He completed a surgical residency at St. Elizabeth’s Health Center in Youngstown, and is currently doing an acute care surgery fellowship at the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor.
