Henry Elling Jr.

Delphos - Henry Elling Jr., 81, died at 4:14 p.m. Nov. 25, 2009 at St. Rita’s Medical Center.

He was born April 22, 1928 in Malinta to Henry and Ida Marie Huner Elling Sr., who preceded him in death. He was married on Feb. 12, 1949 in Covington, Ky. to Lucy K. Merschman, who survives.

Mr. Ellings was a retired carpenter. He was a life member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 6672, Spencerville and American Legion Post 268, Delphos. He was a member of Carpenter’ Union Local 1581, Napoleon and Military Order of the Cootie pup tent 2, Delphos. He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II. He enjoyed gardening, gambling and his family. He always enjoyed a good poker game.

Survivors also include: four sons, Robert (Marsha) Elling, of Spencerville, Ronald Elling, of Kenton, John (Kay) Elling, of Middle Point, and Michael (Nancy) Elling, of Delphos; a daughter, Deborah (Robert) Lammers; a sister, Virginia (Rollie) Klenz, of Delphos; 21 grandchildren; and 33 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by brothers, Luther Elling, and Donald Elling; and sisters, Laura Betts, Pauline Miller and Martha Elling.

Services will be at 8 p.m. Sunday at Harter and Schier Funeral Home, Delphos. The Rev. Catherine Olsen will officiate. Burial will be at a later date. Military rites by Delphos Veterans Council.

Friends may call from 2 to 8 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.
