Elizabeth J. “Betty” Marker, 86, died at 9:45 p.m. Nov. 6, 2009, at St. Rita’s Medical Center.
She was born Dec. 24, 1922, in St. Marys to Fred and Annie Laura O’Neill Holtzhauer, who preceded her in death. On Aug. 23, 1947, she married Robert E. Marker Jr., who died June 15, 2009.
Mrs. Marker graduated from St. Marys Memorial High School in 1940. She worked at Goodyear Tire & Rubber in St. Marys, Zofkie Clothing and the license bureau in Wapakoneta. She was also an election poll worker in Wapakoneta for many years. She was a faithful member of St. Joseph Catholic Church and an honorary member of the Knights of Columbus Ladies Auxiliary 1272. She enjoyed sewing, needlework and bridge.
Survivors include four children, Barbara (William) Wildenhaus, of Ottawa, Robert (Wanda) Marker III, of San Jose, Calif., Fred (Pamela) Marker, of Westerville, and Laura (Dirk Yerian) Marker, of Akron; 10 grandchildren, Kyle Marker, Lynn (Dustin) Verdin, Braden Marker, Nicholas Marker, Curt Marker, Jeffrey Steinwachs, Alexandra Wildenhaus, Lindsey Steinwachs, Todd Yerian, and Melissa (Joe) Buchanan; seven great-grandchildren, Ella Jensen, James “Jack” Verdin, Haley King, Landon King, Joe Buchanan, Larissa Buchanan, and Gavin Buchanan; and two sisters, Patricia Monger and Mary M. “Jakie” Brodbeck.
She was preceded in death by a brother, George, who died as an infant; and three sisters, Mary C. Holtzhauer, Ann Francis Gasson, and Helen “Mickie” Dicke.
A Mass of Christian Burial will begin at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Wapakoneta. The Rev. Patrick Sloneker will officiate. Burial will be in St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery, Wapakoneta.
Friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Bayliff & Eley Funeral Home, state Route 501, Wapakoneta.
Memorial contributions may be made to St. Joseph Catholic Church or the Wapakoneta YMCA.
