Clotilda L. “Tillie” Spieles

Clotilda L. "Tillie" Spieles, 95, died at 8:35 p.m. May 11, 2008, at VanCrest Health Care, Delphos.
She was born June 1, 1912, in Ottoville to Joseph and Theresa Becker Schlagbaum, who preceded her in death. On April 23, 1938, she married Ralph Spieles, who survives.
Mrs. Spieles was a homemaker and had worked at Meyer's Cleaners in her early years. She was a life member of St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church, Delphos, and its Altar Rosary Society. She had made the noodles and dressing for several years for parish festivals. She and her husband had moved to Delphos where they raised their family and were season ticket holders for the Delphos St. John's Blue Jays for 43 years. They enjoyed going to many sporting events and youth activities. She was a devoted housewife and mother, who's life was focused on her husband, her family life and her friends. In 2002, it was necessary to move her into VanCrest Health Care, where she made herself at home by befriending many and they returned her friendship. This beautiful mother died on Mother's Day.
Survivors include three sons, Jim (Dolores) Spieles, of Wauseon, and Bob (Lana) Spieles and Chuck (Judy) Spieles, both of Delphos; two daughters, Marcia (Paul) Grothause, of Delphos, and Diann (Ernie) Neal, of Worthington; three sisters, Dorothy (Hubert) Altenburger, of Ottoville, and Phyllis (Robert) Krouse and JoAnn Schlagbaum, both of Lima; and 21 grandchildren, 33 great-grandchildren, two stepgrandchildren and three stepgreat-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by a daughter, Carol (Jerry) Honigford; five brothers, Vincent, Ottie, Tony, John and Joseph Jr. Schlagbaum; and four sisters, Bernadette Heathman, Loretta Roth, Marie Kohlrieser and Mary Schlagbaum.
Mass of Christian Burial will begin at 11 a.m. Thursday at of St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church, Delphos. Father Melvin Verhoff will officiate. Burial will be in Resurrection Cemetery, Delphos.
Friends may call from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Harter & Schier Funeral Home, Delphos, where a parish wake service will be held at 7:30 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Delphos St. John's School.
