New Bremen
Darrell D. Darnell, 79, died at 9:08 a.m. Nov. 24, 2009, at Wapak Manor Nursing Center, Wapakoneta.
He was born June 13, 1930, in Lima to Raymond and Alice Blank Darnell.
Mr. Darnell served with the U.S. Army during the Korean War, where he was with the 27th Field Artillery Battalion. He was a member of Veteran of Foreign Wars Post 9289, American Legion Post 323 and the Fraternal Order of Eagles Aerie 767, all of St. Marys. In 1991, he retired from the former Goodyear of St. Marys after 43 years of service.
Survivors include his companion for the past 33 years, Viola Broders, of New Bremen; two daughters, Rochelle (Bob Kinahan) Darnell, of Arvada, Colo., and Denise Darnell, of St. Marys; three sons, Rayomd Darnell, of Denver, David (Alma) Simindinger, of Sidney, and Don Simindinger, of New Bremen; five grandchildren, Joshua Darnell, Hannah Darnell, Chris Simindinger, Mollie Simindinger and Kenny Simindinger; a great-grandson, Layton Wall; and a sister, Mary Alice (Bob) Kling, of Vandalia.
He was preceded in death by a sister, Wilma Hobler; a brother, Robert Darnell; and a daughter-in-law, Cinda Simindinger.
Services will begin at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Gilberg-Hartwig Funeral Home, New Bremen. The Rev. Stephen Wills will officiate. Burial will be in the Elm Grove Cemetery, St. Marys, with full military honors by VFW Post 9289.
Friends may call from 2 to 6 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.
