Putnam County hurting taxpayers
Comments 0 | Recommend 0How does Putnam County return to positive cash flow? By not growing government in good times and expecting the taxpayers to burden additional taxes put on them when the economy takes a downturn. This is what is happening in our county.
Putnam County taxpayers have paid out more than $300,000 more in taxes to our county in 2007 than they did in 2006. Yet we have increased our spending by $500,000. It's not that the taxpayer isn't paying enough. It's that the county spending is growing too much.
A tax increase in hard economic times is the worst thing you can do. It only will make things worse and prolong hard economic times for us. The commissioners must resist the temptation to grow government. Sometimes, you have to say no.
Now that Putnam County has maxed out on the sales tax and we are selling off our assets, it's time for fiscal responsibility. It's time for the commissioners to be responsible for their actions.
