OSU's Robiskie quietly productive
COLUMBUS - Ohio State wide receiver Brian Robiskie could list more than a few times he has nimbly gotten his feet down inside the sideline on a catch.
But that one time he stepped over the line is also vivid in his mind.
During the Buckeyes' game at Minnesota last season, he celebrated a bit more than coach Jim Tressel approved of and heard about it from his coach.
"I think I maybe got out of hand a little bit. I looked into the crowd and kind of said something," the senior receiver said.
Before any of the officials could warn him, Robiskie heard about it from his coach.
What did he say? "He said, ‘Don't do it,' " Robiskie said, with a smile.
Except for that one occasion, Robiskie let his actions speak for him last season when he led Ohio State in catches (55), receiving yards (935) and touchdown catches (11).
Robiskie was especially productive early in the season before teams noticed and began to double-team him.
He downplayed anything he did to fight through double teams. "A lot of it is the route that is called, it's not so much the receiver doing anything special," he said.
Robiskie has no problem with being labeled low-key, steady and consistent, if people want to do that.
"Being consistent is the biggest thing for me, being able to do the same thing week in and week out. That's how I approach everything I do. I try to be as consistent as I can be. I'm more of a lead by example guy."
Robiskie was slowed by a shoulder injury for a while during preseason practice but says it is "100 percent" now.
He was one of four captains elected by his teammates last week, along with quarterback Todd Boeckman from the offense and linebacker James Laurinaitis and cornerback Malcolm Jenkins from the defense.
Those four beat out some strong competition on a team with 20 returning starters, offensive tackle Alex Boone said.
"I voted for all four of those guys. I thought Marcus (Freeman) should have been in there too, so I wrote in another one. There were so many of them. You're looking around the room thinking, ‘He could be good. And he could be good,' " Boone said.
