Soldier hit by sniper saves the bullet

Veteran, friends rescued drowning men

I enlisted in the Army in October 1942 and served through January 1946. I spent two years in the Pacific Theater and never had a fresh meal during those years. Everything was dehydrated or canned, and we ate under a poncho during heavy rains. Every few minutes, I had to dump water out of my mess kit and chase out blow flies as big as bumble bees.

I have two albums of pictures, including pictures of Ernie Pylar’s grave and where he was killed.

I have pictures of the Japanese surrender — they had to paint their planes
white with a green cross on it. Me and the other men saved the lives of two men from drowning. I was hit by a sniper and still have the bullet.

I enlisted again in 1950 but did not go overseas. I was stationed in California and Nevada. I witnessed an atom bomb explode in the Nevada desert.

I do not approve of wars. Everyone we ever fought, we later befriended.

Every war in the last hundred years was started in a Democratic administration except this one.
