Carolyn V. Newman, 69, died Oct. 31, 2009, in her residence.

She was born Aug. 5, 1940, in Atlanta to James Raymond Sr. and Ida Louise Roden Blackstock, who preceded her in death. On July 23, 1956, she married John D. Newman Sr., who survives in Lima. They were married 53 years. 

Mrs. Newman attended Stockbridge High School in Stockbridge, Ga. She was a homemaker. She and her husband enjoyed traveling in their recreational vehicle. She cherished spending time with her family, which was the center of her life. She had a high appreciation for history, was an avid reader and enjoyed crafts.

Survivors also include three sons, John D. (Barb) Newman Jr. and Joseph D. (Becky) Newman, of Lima, and Daniel (Jennifer) Newman, of Wapakoneta; four daughters, Sherie (Andrew) Fairchild, of Quincy, Pamela (Matt) Harris, of Wapakoneta, Theresa (Kenny) Mauk, of Spencerville, and Lynn Baker, of Rockford; three brothers Johnny Newell, of Georgia, and Donald Blackstock and James Lee Blackstock, of Florida; three sisters, Sharon Lonon, of Florida, Karen Blackstock, of Kansas, and Linda Skinkle, of Georgia; and 16 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by a son, Larry Dale Newman; a brother, Raymond Blackstock; a son-in-law, Brian D. Baker; and a grandson, Adam N.

Services will begin at 8 p.m. Tuesday at Bayliff & Son Funeral Home, Cridersville. Her brother, Pastor Johnny Newell, will officiate.

Friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.

Memorial contributions may be made to the American Lung Association, the Disabled American Veterans, or the Humane Society.
