Robert L. “Bob” Brinkman

Lima

Robert L. "Bob" Brinkman, 42, died at 7:14 a.m. May 19, 2008, at St. Rita's Medical Center.

He was born July 1, 1965, in Lima to Ralph L. and Doris M. Schwinnen Brinkman, who survive in Ottoville. On July 30, 1988, he married Tracy L. Spencer, who survives in Lima.

Mr. Brinkman taught second, third and fourth grades at St. Gerard School for the last 20 years, and played guitar at the school Masses. He was a member of St. Gerard Catholic Church. His love of music was continually expressed by playing trumpet for the Lima Area Concert Band for several years and with the bands No Right Turn and The Brass Notes of Ottoville. He coached his three sons' sports teams and served as a "Pit Dad" for the Shawnee High School Band of One. He was a 1983 graduate of Ottoville High School and a 1987 graduate of The Ohio State University. He was an Army Reserve veteran, serving from 1983 to 1989. He enjoyed collecting baseball cards and coins.

Survivors include three sons, Luke Brinkman, Scott Brinkman and Troy Brinkman, all at home; a brother, Jay Brinkman, of Midwest City, Okla.; three sisters, Bonnie (Larry) Miller and Mary Kay (Tony) Schroeder, both of Ottoville, and Kelly (Glen) Wurth, of Kalida; seven nephews; 11 nieces; his mother-in-law, Sue Spencer, of Waynesfield; maternal grandmother-in-law, Eva Buffenbarger Walper, of Waynesfield; a brother-in-law, Todd (Shani) Spencer, of Waynesfield; and two sisters-in-law, Kimberly (Chuck) Holloway, of Lima, and Jennifer (Jamie) Davis, of Huntsville.

He was preceded in death by his father-in-law, Marvin C. Spencer; paternal grandparents, Sylvester and Philomena Brinkman; maternal grandparents, Alphonse and Anna Schwinnen; paternal grandparents-in-law, Dewey and Marie Spencer; and maternal grandfather-in-law, Raymond Buffenbarger.

Mass of Christian Burial will begin at 10 a.m. Saturday at St. Gerard Catholic Church. Fathers George Blasick and Don Mueller will officiate. Burial will be in Shawnee Cemetery.

Friends may call from 2 to 8 p.m. Friday at Chiles-Laman Funeral Homes, Shawnee Chapel.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to his children's education fund in care of Huntington Bank.
