Fort Jennings
Albert A. Berelsman, 85, died at 9:27 p.m. Dec. 28, 2009, at Van Wert Area Inpatient Hospice Center, Van Wert.
He was born July 29, 1924, in Fort Jennings to Anton and Elizabeth Wieging Berelsman, who preceded him in death. On Nov. 25, 1950, he married Beatrice Wahmhoff, who died Aug. 23, 1953. On Sept. 27, 1954, he married Mabel C. Calvelage, who survives in Fort Jennings.
Mr. Berelsman retired as a farmer and from Warner & Swasey, Lima. He was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, Fort Jennings. He was an Army veteran of the Korean War. He was a member of American Legion Post 715, Fort Jennings.
Survivors also include three sons, Anthony (Cindy Lamon) Berelsman, of Delphos, and Tom (Bev) Berelsman and Gary (Stacey) Berelsman, both of Fort Jennings; five daughters, Janet (Mike) Freisthler, of Sidney, Jean (Daniel) Heitzman, of Continental, Susan Fike, of Leipsic, and Diana (Dennis) Osting and Jackie (Jerry) Siefker, both of Fort Jennings; 18 grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; two sisters, Bernadine Hoersten, of Delphos, and Olivia “Leafy” (Orval) Eickholt, of Ottoville; and two sisters-in-law, Belva Berelsman, of Lima, and Leona Berelsman, of Delphos.
He was preceded in death by a son, Gerald Berelsman; a son-in-law, Craig Fike; a granddaughter, Ashley Berelsman; two great-grandchildren, Nathan Gasser and Mallory Gasser; five brothers, William, Linus, Hubert, Norbert and Ambrose Berelsman; and four sisters, Margaret Erhart, Cecelia Plescher, Mary Hoersten and Loretta Leatherman.
Mass of Christian Burial will begin at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Fort Jennings. Father Joseph Przybysz will officiate. Burial will be in the church cemetery, with military rites by American Legion Post 715.
Friends may call from 2 to 8 p.m. today at Love-Heitmeyer Funeral Home, Jackson Township, where an American Legion service will be held at 7 p.m. and a Scripture service at 7:30 p.m., and one hour prior to services Thursday at the church.
Memorial contributions may be made to St. Joseph Cemetery or the charity of the donor’s choice.
