Julie A. Bassitt, 56, died Nov. 2, 2009, at her residence.
She was born Sept. 27, 1953, in Ottawa to Howard E. and Marie T. Ellerbrock Heffley. Her father preceded her in death. Her mother, Marie Wehrly, survives in Lima. On Oct. 30, 1971, she married Michael R. Bassitt, who died Nov. 2, 2009. They were married for 38 years.
Mrs. Bassitt was a homemaker. She never knew a stranger and everyone was her friend, regardless of the situation. She never missed a celebration. She was always ready for a laugh, a joke, a hug or just to talk. When she was healthy, or her legs were ready, she would be out shopping till she dropped. She loved to listen to music and karaoke. She always gave a positive thought to any situation. She loved her family, was her grandsons’ biggest fan and she enjoyed watching them play sports. Anything her family needed, she would provide. She also enjoyed playing bingo and watching the Cleveland Cavaliers.
Survivors also include two daughters, Shelly R. (Scott Neff) Bassitt, of Lima, and Cathy M. (Brian Upshaw Sr.) Bassitt, of Elida; three grandchildren, Dre White, B.J. Upshaw and Kayla Neff; a brother, Bud (Vicki) Wehrly, of Bluffton; a stepbrother, Jeff Leatherman; two sisters, Vicki (Jerry) Deal, of Zanesfield, and Tina Porter, of Lima; two stepsisters, Linda (Dennis) Baker and Tina Smith, both of Florida; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her stepfather, Tom Wehrly.
Joint services with her husband will begin at 1 p.m. Monday at Chiles-Laman Funeral Homes, Shawnee Chapel. Richard McKeever III will officiate. Burial will be in Ward Cemetery.
Friends may call from 3 to 7 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.
