Arthur V. “Butch” Ginter Jr.

Harrod - Arthur V. “Butch” Ginter Jr., 71, died at 3:06 a.m. Nov. 28, 2009 at Lima Memorial Health System.

He was born Nov. 19, 1938 in St. Marys to Arthur V. and Betty Carmean Ginter Sr., who preceded him in death. He was married Aug. 21, 1959 to Carol Ann Goodwin, who survives in Harrod.

He proudly served in the United States Army from 1955 to 1958 and played semi-pro football while stationed in Germany. Mr. Ginter had worked at Teledyne Ohio Steel for 10 years. He retired in 1998, after 17 years of service as a corrections officer for the State of Ohio. He was a member of Forest Park United Methodist Church and Sager Masonic Lodge No. 513, Lafayette. He also belonged to the National Quilting Organization, Ohio Quilts!!, and the West Central Ohio Quilt Guild, of which he had been a past-president. His quilting memberships also included the Town & Country Quilt Club and the Forest Park Quilters. Mr. Ginter was a quilt judge, lector, and teacher. He was a collector of antique sewing machines and owned the Harrod Sewing Museum. He was a member of the Auglaize Township Historical Society. He played on the first Lima pro soccer team; enjoyed playing Santa Claus during the holiday season; and was involved with 4-H, serving as a leader for several years. He loved to travel and spend time with his children and grandchildren.

Survivors also include: a son, Carl Arthur (Lisa) Ginter, of Galion; a daughter, Reneti (Rick) Klingler, of Greer, S.C.; a brother, Ernest “Dud” (Glenda) Ginter, of Michigan; a sister, Wanda (Tim) Carpenter, of St. Marys; and grandchildren, Jerica Lynn Ginter, Duell Scott Ginter, Douglas Arthur Ginter, and Lillian Sophia Rose Ginter.

He was preceded in death by an infant daughter, Ann C. Ginter; two brothers, Francis S. and Richard Ginter; and a sister, Barbie Ginter.

Services will begin at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at Forest Park United Methodist Church, Lima. Pastor Derek Russell will officiate.

Friends may call from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. Monday at Chiles-Laman Funeral Homes, Lewis-Eastside Chapel, where a Masonic Service will begin at 7:30 p.m. Monday, and one hour prior to the service Tuesday at the church.

Memorial contributions may be made to the family.
