William Amos "Bill" Dickinson

William Amos “Bill” Dickinson, 94, died Dec. 20, 2009, at Worthington Christian Village, Worthington.
He was born Nov. 10, 1915, in Ogilvie, Minn., to Wesley A. and Halle Hills Dickinson, who preceded him in death. On May 12, 1945, in Emporium, Pa., he married Maxine I. McDaniels, who died Dec. 25, 2007. They were happily married for more than 62 years.
Mr. Dickinson was a graduate of Windom High School, Windom, Minn., and received his bachelor’s degree in physics from Iowa State University. He was an electronics engineer. He first started working in 1937 at Sylvania/GTE, St. Marys, Pa., and continued his career with them in Emporium, Pa., Seneca Falls, N.Y., and Ottawa, where he moved to in 1962. He worked in Ottawa until his retirement in 1979, when he was a manager of design engineering. His career of 42 years was devoted to the design of cathode ray tubes, on which he was issued several U.S. patents. He served as chairman of the Industry Engineering Committee on cathode ray tubes and was awarded the Engineering Award of Excellence by the Electronic Industry Association. He was a member of Institute of Electrical & Electronics Engineers and the Society of Motion Picture & Television Engineers.
He was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church, Ottawa, for more than 40 years, where he served as the building chairman of the current sanctuary. His involvement in community affairs included the Kiwanis Club, the American Red Cross, the United Way and the Boy Scouts of America. He was a master gardener, an enthusiastic traveler and a photographer.
Survivors include four children, Bradley (Colette) Dickinson, of Lawrenceville, N.J., Barbara (Robert) Tornatzky, of Westerville, Kirk (Shari) Dickinson, of Valencia, Calif., and Susan (Winfried) Reis, of Rosenheim, Germany; five grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and a sister, Winifred (Louis) Israel, of Maumee.
Memorial services will begin at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Trinity United Methodist Church, Ottawa.
Friends may call following the service at a luncheon.
