Akrow “Pappy” Owsley

Akrow “Pappy” Owsley, 83, died at 12:07 p.m. Nov. 24, 2009, at his residence.
He was born May 5, 1926, in Knott County, Ky., to Dan and Dora Messer Owsley. His wife, Pauline Joy “Granny” Owsley, died March 7, 2005. They were married July 11, 1947.
Mr. Owsley was an assembly line worker for Lima Ford Motor Co. with 31 years service, retiring Jan. 1, 1988. He was a member of Old Regular Baptist Church. He enjoyed gardening, playing the banjo and making baskets.
Survivors include six sons, Roy (Kathy) Owsley, of Montpelier, and David (Pam) Owsley, James (Mary) Owsley, William Owsley, Joseph Owsley and Wayne (Kim) Owsley, all of Lima; three daughters, Nancy Owsley, Paula Volbert Owsley and Noreen (Mark) Owsley, all of Lima; 11 grandchildren, Laura (Ben) Smith, Shawn (Jocastia) Owsley, Shannon (Jessica) Owsley, Angela (Chad) Reichenbach, Maelene (Tim) Harrod, Brandon Owsley, Jesse Owsley, April Lynn Volbert, Ashley Nicole Volbert, Ava Marie Volbert and Josh Owsley; eight great-grandchildren, Devin, Nadean, Tea’, Alayna, Timmy, Kaylyn, Sebastian and Sophia Grace; and a sister, Josephine, in Indiana.
He was preceded in death by a daughter, Dora Owsley; and three sisters, Dee Stone, Rose and Irene.
Services will begin at 8 p.m. today at Chiles-Laman Funeral Homes, Wayne Street Chapel. The Rev. Ezra Moore will officiate. Burial will be in Wooten Cemetery, Hindman, Ky.
Friends may call from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.
A second service will begin at 1 p.m. Monday at Hindman Funeral Home, with visitation from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Monday.
