George L. Hanefeld
Continental
George L. Hanefeld, 90, died at 4:16 a.m. March 15, 2010, at Putnam Acres Care Center, Ottawa.
He was born July 14, 1919, in Cloverdale to John R. and Mabel F. Kirkendall Hanefeld, who preceded him in death. On Aug. 16, 1941, he married Mildred Parker, who died Dec. 16, 2004.
Mr. Hanefeld was former owner and operator of Gulf Service Station in Continental. He was a retired farmer and retired school bus driver for Continental. He was a World War II Army veteran. He was a former member of the Continental American Legion and Putnam County Farm Bureau. He formerly operated the Sinclair Service Station and formerly worked at the Hiegel Elevator in Continental for many years.
Survivors include two sons, Donald L. (Carolyn) Hanefeld, of Defiance, and Dennis E. (Kim) Hanefeld, of Continental; a daughter, Ruth A. Everett, of Bluffton; six grandchildren, Douglas (Deb) Hanefeld, Leigh Ann Everett, Austin Loper, Richelle Hanefeld, Dylan Hanefeld and Keanna Hanefeld; a great-granddaughter, Jessica Hanefeld; and a brother, William Hanefeld, of Continental.
He was preceded in death by a son, Richard L. Hanefeld, and two brothers, Fred and Everett Hanefeld.
Services will begin at 11 a.m. Thursday at Heitmeyer Funeral Home, Continental. The Rev. Paul Carder will officiate. Burial will be in Monroe Cemetery, Continental.
Friends may call from 2 to 8 p.m. Wednesday and from 10 to 11 a.m. Thursday at the funeral home.
Memorial contributions may be made to the charity of the donor’s choice.
