Elizabeth Bowers

Columbus Grove - Elizabeth Bowers, 91, died at 10:58 a.m. Oct. 27, 2009, at St. Rita’s Medical Center.

She was born Sept. 3, 1918, in Pandora to Jasper and Bess Marks Pope, who preceded her in death. On Dec. 7, 1942, she married Richard Ray Bowers, who died Aug. 5, 1981.

Mrs. Bowers was a homemaker. She was a member of St. John United Methodist Church, Columbus Grove, and its Methodist Women Society. She was an avid Cleveland sports fan, especially the Indians, along with The Ohio State University Buckeyes.

Survivors include a son, Donald Bowers, of Ottawa; a daughter, Janet (Reinardo “Barney”) Schubert, of Columbus Grove; five grandchildren, Mark (Jennifer) Schubert, Amy (Donald) Kennard, Craig (Danielle) Bowers, Matthew (Michelle) Bowers and Mandy (fiancé Steve Andrus) Bowers; and seven great-grandchildren, Emily Schubert, Sarah Schubert, Zachary Schubert, Allison Kennard, Michael Kennard, Mia Kennard and Andrew Bowers.

She was preceded in death by a daughter, Marilyn Jean Bowers; three brothers, George, Bob and Richard Pope; and a sister, Frances VanPaepeghem.

Services will begin at 11 a.m. Saturday at St. John United Methodist Church, Columbus Grove. Pastor Gary Ginter will officiate. Burial will be in Truro Cemetery, Columbus Grove.

Friends may call from 2 to 8 p.m. Friday at Hartman Sons Funeral Home, Columbus Grove, and one hour prior to services  Saturday at the church.

Memorial contributions may be made to St. John United Methodist Church.
