Outlook: The Wildcats have a young team that has better ball skills and field awareness than in past years. They still need to develop more offense. The goal is to finish above .500.

Outlook: The Pirates will field a young team, but do return all-state F August and all-district G Freeman. The Pirates will be solid on defense, but need to replace their midfield. All-state F Patrick Garlock also graduated.

Outlook: The Pirates are loaded with experience. They also have above average team speed. The Pirates will work on getting more shots on goal.

Outlook: The Bulldogs should be strong on defense and in the midfield. Elida hopes its experience will translate into more scoring opportunities.

Fort Jennings

Outlook: First-year coach Bill Romes inherits 13 lettermen and eight starters from last year. The Musketeers hope the experience translates into a return to the team’s winning tradition. The club’s strength is moving the ball, but will work on defense and the transition game.


Coach: Mark Czubik

Outlook: Kalida will be strong in goal with Bockrath (0.60 GAA, 11 shutouts), but he will be without the starting defenders from a year ago. The Wildcats have a good solid young nucleus, but only four starters return. Veteran Basinger (6 goals) will lead the offense. Coach Czubik is shooting for his 21st straight winning season.

Lima Central Catholic

Coach: Bryan Burkholder

Outlook: The T-Birds will rally around their 12 seniors. The defense should be a strength. The offense needs to replace 20-goal scorer Shawn Ritchie.

Lima Senior

Coach: Mitch Monfort

Top returning players: MF Sir Hamby; F Ryan Stalder; F Justin Rapp; D Austin Beggin; MF Quientin Starkey; D Arthur Johnson.

Outlook: Coach Mitch Monfort has been impressed by his team’s work ethic. The Spartans will work on controlling the tempo of the game and ball movement.


Coach: Mike Weihrauch

Outlook: The core returns from last year’s Western Buckeye League champions, including all-district Leatherman. The Titans have good size and speed and just need to fill in a few spots on defense. O-G should once again be in the WBL title hunt.


Coach: Eric Gerker

Outlook: The Big Green will have a young look, with only three seniors on the roster. The team will lean heavily on a talented group of underclassmen.

Outlook: Coach Hovest said her team communicates well. It has good balance, between offense and defense, and good depth. Eleven lettermen return, including sweeper Hovest and goalkeeper Kahle.

Promising newcomers: F Clark Heinz; D Hunter Pay; MF Nick Pratt; D Tim Taviano; D Joe Goodman.

Outlook: A strong offensive nucleus returns from last year’s regional finals team. The defense needs to be revamped after the flat-back four was hit by graduation. Young players will be counted on to mix with the veterans as Shawnee makes another run at a WBL title.

Promising newcomers: F Garrett Croft; G Josiah McNulty.

Outlook: Veteran coach Dean Brown begins the program at Spencerville. The Bearcats will work on executing set plays and their individual skills. The goal will be to be competitive and improve as the year goes on.

Temple Christian

Coach: Dave Shannon

Years, career record: Fourth season, 40-6-6

Division: III

Last year’s record: 15-2-2 (district finals)

Outlook: The Pioneers are loaded. They return nine juniors who started a year ago on a team that went 15-2-2 and reached the district finals. The Pioneers’ strengths include experience (10 starters back), ball skills, passing and speed. Josh Weiss is one of the top goalkeepers in the state.

Van Wert

Coach: Derek Stemen
