ADA â?? Ada quarterback Mitchell Faine got the MRI news on his knee Tuesday and it wasnâ??t good.
Faine will miss the rest of the season with a torn anterior cruciate ligament in his knee. He also suffered a sprained medial collateral ligament. The date for the surgery hasnâ??t been set.
Faine triggered the high-powered spread offense to help the Bulldogs go 5-0, 3-0 in the Northwest Conference.
Faine was injured running the ball in the first quarter of Fridayâ??s 43-14 victory over Bluffton. He was hit on the side of the knee while stretching for the end zone.
â??I feel a lot worse for Mitchell, who has worked his tail off,â?ť Ada coach Mike Fell said. â??Heâ??s one of the top passers in the nation and is first in the state. And in a second, itâ??s all taken a way. Itâ??s hard for me to take as his coach, and for his senior year, I feel for him.â?ť
Faine has completed 102 of 137 for 1,648 yards. He has thrown 17 touchdowns. Faine has also run for 215 yards (5.1 yards-per-carry) and eight touchdowns.
Taking over at quarterback will be one of the top receivers in the state, Heath Jackson, who has 46 receptions for 781 yards and seven touchdowns. Jackson took over for Faine Friday and completed 7 of 14 passes for 180 yards and one touchdown.
â??Heâ??ll (Jackson) do a nice job and will present problems for people,â?ť Fell said. â??He has a nice arm and good feet.â?ť
Ada is ranked No. 6 in the state in Division VI.
