Locos unable to clinch No. 1 seed

HAMILTON — The Lima Locos were unable to clinch the outright regular season title and the top seed in the Great Lakes Summer Collegiate League playoffs Thursday, falling 4-3 to the Hamilton Joes.

The Locos (25-13) will try to clinch the top spot when they play host to the Lexington Hustlers at 7:05 p.m. tonight at Simmons Field. Southern Ohio (20-15) remained alive in the race for the No. 1 spot by defeating Cincinnati 11-3 Thursday.

Against the Joes, Lima was led by Matthew Furuto who had three hits, drove in one (his 15th of the season) and scored one run. Teammate Brett Carlson had two hits and an RBI and Dylan Ingram had a hit and an RBI also for the Locos.

Austin Sexton (2-1) took the loss. He went six innings, walked one, struck out three and allowed six hits and two earned runs.
