BOSTON — A.J. Pierzynski, Mike Napoli and Dustin Pedroia hit two-run doubles and the Boston Red Sox scored their season-high in runs in a 10-3 victory over the Cleveland Indians on Friday night.


After managing just one run in a three-game series at Baltimore, Boston won its second straight over Cleveland, which has lost four in a row.


The Red Sox entered the game with the fourth-lowest batting average in the AL. But they are 4-2 after a five-game losing streak that began with three consecutive losses in Cleveland.


Xander Bogaerts finished the offensive onslaught with a solo homer in the eighth, his sixth of the season.


NOTES: The Indians recalled LHP Crockett from Columbus and optioned LHP Nick Hagadone to that Triple-A team. … Cleveland 3B Lonnie Chisenhall’s hitting streak ended at nine games. … Boston has won its last seven home games. … In Saturday’s third game of the four-game series, T.J. House (0-1) pitches for Cleveland against Jake Peavy (1-4).


Twins 2, Tigers 0


DETROIT — Kyle Gibson threw seven innings and Eduardo Escobar hit a solo homer in the third and drew a bases-loaded walk in the ninth, lifting the Minnesota Twins to a 2-0 victory over the Detroit Tigers on Friday night.


Detroit left seven on base against Gibson. The right-hander escaped a bases-loaded, one-out jam in the fifth inning by getting Miguel Cabrera to ground into a double play.


NOTES: Tigers RHP Luke Putkonen, who is out indefinitely, had elbow surgery Thursday and will be evaluated again in 6 to 8 weeks. … Twins 2B Brian Dozier, who has played a team-high 64 games, was not in the lineup because of a back injury and might sit out of Saturday’s game. … Tigers OF Andy Dirks, who had back surgery in March, is expected to begin a rehab assignment in about a week if he does not have any setbacks.
