LIMA — It may not be a prototypical Christmas concert, but the crowd will definitely be rocking at the Rhett Neck Christmas Extravaganza Sunday at the Activity Center at Shawnee Alliance Church.
“This is the world premiere of this show,” promoter Tug Taviano said. “I just really wanted to bring something to Lima that we’re not used to having with this style of entertainment.”
This style of entertainment refers to Christian southern rock group, the Rhett Walker Band, whose single “When Mercy Found Me” was nominated for a Grammy award.
“It’s just southern American music,” lead singer Rhett Walker said. “I think our mantra would be, ‘Faith, Family and Country.’”
Faith will indeed be a central focus at Sunday’s event.
“To me, the biggest part of this show is the faith,” Taviano said. “There is no doubt in my mind that these guys know what Christmas is all about.”
Joining the band on this tour is Godwin, one of the men featured in the hit A&E series, “Duck Dynasty.” Walker and the band are very familiar with the show’s cast, having toured the Duck Commander facility.
“We met Godwin a couple of years ago,” Walker said. “We got to go to Duck Commander for a tour and when we got there, they were filming for the show. I thought there was no way we were going to get in, but they actually stopped filming and took the time to show us around.”
“While Rhett and I were chilling one night during a tour, we watched ‘Duck Dynasty,’” Taviano said. “As the tour continued, he told me about his relationship with ‘Duck Dynasty,’ so we bantered the idea of doing this tour.”
With the southern rock sound of the Rhett Walker Band combined with Godwin’s antics, the show promises to leave everyone in attendence entertained.
“I’m proud to be doing this with Godwin,” Walker said. “He’s a great and funny dude. When we get there, we’ve got some tricks up our sleeve we’ll do with him. It’s going to be fun, and you just have to show up to the show to see it.”
