GOMER — Alan Tyrrell, of Gomer, completed his Eagle Scout Project.
Alan is 17 years old and attends Apollo Joint Vocational School. He is the son of Alan and Beth Tyrrell.
Alan’s project was to construct a flagpole in Carmen Cemetery, which is off Old Lincoln Highway, west of Wapak Road. His project was funded by Uncle Al’s Pizza. Alan chose the cemetery because he thought it seemed a bit dull and he wanted to show respect to the fallen military who are buried there. The project was finished Oct. 12.
He was inspired to start in Scouting at a very young age. His uncle, Jeffery Alan Jones, was 16 years old and in close pursuit of attaining his Eagle Scout honor when he drowned at Sandy Point Lake. Alan’s other uncle, Craig Tone, is an Eagle Scout, and has been an inspiration to Alan as well.
Alan has been involved in Scouting for 12 years. He has earned 28 badges, and has held numerous leadership positions, including patrol leader, assistant senior patrol leader and senior patrol leader.
