LIMA ‚?? It‚??s a night for the ladies to shine when the female-only comedy contest, ‚??Lima‚??s Funniest Lady,‚?Ě is held in a two-round laugh-off Saturday at The Met.
‚??We are doing this to coincide with Phyllis Diller‚??s birthday. She was a Lima native, and the first real comedienne. Since this marks the first year of her passing, it was important to us to get this going,‚?Ě said Gina Chiappazzi of Limaland Comedy, which arranged the show. Chiappazzi will also host the show.
The roster of comediennes offers no Lima resident, but does include a bevy of talent. ‚??Many of these women have won similar competitions around the country. They are all quality performers,‚?Ě Chiappazzi said.
The judging, done by local judges, will be done in two rounds. The first runs from 2 to 4 p.m., with all comediennes performing a 3 to 5 minute set. Those moving on to the final round can perform up to a 20-minute set in that round, which runs from 8 to 10 p.m.
Although much of the material is adult in content, Chiappazzi noted that Lima‚??s only sketch and improv comedy troupe, Laughs in Middle America, will perform a free family-friendly show earlier in the day at The Meeting Place on Market.
