Hebrews 11:1 says, "Faith is the substance of things hoped for and the evidence of things not seen."
The Scripture goes on to share about the men and women of God and what they have done by faith.
What have you done lately by faith that has produced something?
We are commanded by the Lord to have faith in God (Mark 11:22). This is so key. The Holy Spirit dropped into my heart that many people have faith but it is misdirected. Their faith is not in the Lord but rather in people — many times, in themselves. That is a sure failure. How many have seen the success of others and put your faith and trust in what you have seen, essentially following that person? While those things of others should be an encouragement, our faith must be in God. If that person does not know God, then how can they have faith in God? When people do not know God, then they place their faith wherever they can find hope.
We all have been given the same measure of faith; however, we know that all are not walking in the same measure. Faith must grow. According to the word of God, our faith grows by hearing the word of God. Many hear the word. But because of negative people and their negative words and attitudes that follow, our faith diminishes almost as fast as it has grown.
Another reason many in the body of Christ have no or little faith is this: Faith works by love. Your faith will work according to the exact measure of the love of God you are operating in. If you only have a small amount of the love of God, then, you are only going to be able to walk in a small amount of faith.
In Hebrews 11:6, we learn that without faith it is impossible to please God. Faith is counted for righteousness (Romans 4:5). Each time we believe the word of God, righteousness is imparted into us. We know that the enemy does not want us to walk by faith. We know that through faith and patience, we inherit the promises (Hebrews 6:12). Faith, if it hath not works, is dead (James 2:17).
In the days to come we are going to need great faith to make it through all of the devastation that has already come and more that is coming. The Lord said that those who put their trust in Him shall never be ashamed. Faith is key in this season of our lives. It is time that we remove all the crutches, all those things and people that we have been using to hold us up, to support us. We must grow up in the faith and redirect our hope and trust in God to have faith in God. God has never failed; there is no failure in Him. We will always have victory when our faith is in Him.
There are so many sick and bound around us because of a lack of faith in God. If we cannot operate in the measure of faith, how then will we be able to operate in the gift of faith to do greater things? II Timothy 3:8 says men of corrupt minds, reprobate concerning the faith, also resist the truth. This is a sign of the last days, which we are in at this time. Reprobate means immoral, counterfeit. Many in the church are operating in counterfeit faith, fake faith or dead faith which produces dead works — in other words, nothing. When we are not being led by the Holy Spirit, it is an open door for the enemy to seduce us, to draw us away from the things of God, to fool us, to confuse us.
Paul, in Acts 16:5, speaks of how the New Testament churches were established in faith and they increased daily. We need faith to accomplish anything and everything that we will ever accomplish for the Lord.
We are also commanded by the Lord to walk by faith. That means we are led by the Holy Spirit in everything. We must allow the Holy Spirit to lead us and guide us into all truth. When we are not led by the Holy Spirit, it is an open door of the enemy to confuse us, seduce us, lead us astray and lead us away from the things of God.
Know this: Your faith will be tested. In James 1:3-4, we are told, "... The trying of your faith worketh patience.
But let patience have her perfect work, that ye may be perfect and entire, wanting nothing." Let us grow in faith in God.
