LIMA — The Allen County Sheriff’s Office hopes to talk to two victims of a possible attempted carjacking after an armed robbery Wednesday night.

A black male allegedly committed an armed robbery at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday in the parking lot of Walmart, 2400 Harding Highway, said Lt. Clyde Breitigan, of the Allen County Sheriff’s Office detective bureau. After seeing the crime take place, several people chased the man, who began running.

“He jumped into a green SUV with a couple in it, a couple with one black male and a white female,” Breitigan said. “We don’t know if he attempted to carjack the car or what. They did start screaming and yelling, witnesses who ran to the car told us.”

The group chasing the alleged robber pulled him out of the SUV and recovered the stolen items from the man. After a struggle, the man got away from the group. The SUV also left before the sheriff’s office arrived.

“We’d really like to talk to the couple in the SUV that took off,” Breitigan said. “We need to locate them to get their names as witnesses and hear what happened.”

People with information on the case should call the investigative division of the Allen County Sheriff’s Office at 419-227-3535, ext. 420.
