LIMA — Because of a grant worth more than $288,000, the city has razed 36 residential structures and likely will fund eight more demolitions this morning.
Lima Public Works Director Howard Elstro updated city council members about the demolition program Monday night.
The Attorney General Moving Ohio Forward Grant began in October 2012.
There is a list of 190 vacant structures in the city, generated by the Lima Allen County Building Department. They will be evaluated and prioritized by the building commissioner for demolition when funds become available.
Elstro said in February crews have been able to raze 220 structures in a two-year period, totalling about $1.4 million, with the Neighborhood Stabilization Funds program.
