Letter: Apollo makes difference when times are tough

Apollo makes difference

when times are tough

Single after 30 years of marriage, and close to retirement age, despite my best efforts, my future looked bleak. I had been looking for work but even with five certifications and an associate’s degree completed in 2012 I was unable to find enough work to cover my living expenses and bills. I felt hopeless and helpless.

The first part of March I heard about the State Tested Nursing Aide (STNA) program at Apollo Career Center. With the help of the Apollo staff I was able to get into the classes that started in mid-March. The classes were informative, well organized, and the lab had the equipment we needed for hands on learning. In mid-April I took my state test and passed.

That day I passed my state test I started job hunting as an STNA. The first place I applied hired me and I started working that very evening. My education and training through Apollo allowed me to start my new job with confidence. I had the knowledge and skills to do the job.

Apollo’s STNA program has made such a difference in my life. I am able to pay my bills and I have a career that has not only brightened my future but allows me to feel I am really making a difference in the lives of others. I really can’t say enough about how Apollo has impacted my life and I know I am not alone. I hope Apollo gets the levy it needs so it can expand its programs and continue to provide the kinds of quality education that get people jobs.
