Park programs worth supporting

We are so fortunate to have the Johnny Appleseed Metropolitan Park District available for the residents of Allen County. The park district offers activities for everyone. We utilized the campground several weeks a year and assisted for another few weeks as volunteer hosts.

This campground is one of the finest in Ohio with a design and operation that is outstanding. The picnic pavilions, beach, nature walks, Saturday evening amphitheater programs (paid by generous donations) and the Rotary Riverwalk are all used by many families throughout the summer. What a wonderful experience to walk through Kendrick Woods with the spring flowers and the fall leaves.

Perhaps you have attended one of the many festivals that are sponsored by the park district. Maybe you took the grandchildren for a visit to Deep Cut or Fort Amanda. Some of you might have taken your dog to the park for swimming the last day of the season.

The Johnny Appleseed Metropolitan Park District has provided great services with a very lean budget. The staff is dedicated to provide the best services possible even though it has been necessary to reduce staff hours to maintain a balanced budget. The many dedicated volunteers have also shared the load by performing tasks that assist the staff.

I ask you to please consider the needs of the Johnny Appleseed Park District and vote “yes” for the 3/4 mill replacement levy to operate, maintain and improve your parks for the next 10 years.
