Lima approves downtown parking changes for steakhouse

April 1, 2013

LIMA — The Lima Traffic Commission approved a parking plan Monday for Old City Prime, John Heaphy’s upcoming downtown steakhouse.

Seven diagonal spaces in front of the steakhouse at 215 S. Main St. will be converted to a loading zone where people can drop off and pick up passengers.

Heaphy said he is looking forward to opening the restaurant.

“I think the establishment will better the downtown and the city will be happy with it,” Heaphy said.

The restaurant will include a canopy at its main entrance, near the drop-off zone, with valet parking available.

Targeted to open in September, the restaurant will serve lunch and dinner Monday through Saturday. Steaks and seafood will be the signature dishes. Reservations will be taken. Inside, patrons will be greeted by a large circular bar where a brick wall once stood, surrounded by an elegant dining area.

Upstairs on weekends, musicians will play live, ranging from soft rock to jazz and blues.

Lima has been without a fine dining restaurant downtown for three years. The Main Street Bistro first opened on South Main Street in 1998. It temporarily closed in 2007 after a legal dispute over a lease. Nearly six months later, it reopened one storefront away at 219 S. Main St. That building burned down in January 2010.
