Harrold W. ‚??Jack‚?Ě Goodnight died March 18, 2013, at 8:25 p.m. at St. Rita‚??s Medical Center.
He was born March 7, 1921, in Indianapolis, to Ira O. and Bessie O. Grose Goodnight, who preceded him in death. On Aug. 5, 1944, he married Marilyn Jean MacDougall, who had passed away Jan. 16,2012.
He began working for Standard Oil of Ohio (Sohio) before enlisting in United States Navy in 1941. He served three and a half years as a pilot flying off carriers in the Pacific. Jack met Marilyn Jean Macdougall, his bride of 67 years, while he was a cadet. He continued his career with Sohio while completing a mechanical engineering degree at the University of Toledo. During his 47 years with Sohio, Jack and his family lived in Swanton, Tiffin, Cincinnati, Wapakoneta, Kansas City, Mo., and eventually moved to Lima, in 1965, to continue working for Sohio‚??s agri-chemical division, Vistron, as a regional manager. He became president of the Better Business Bureau after retiring from Sohio. Jack was a longtime member of Rotary International, serving as president from 1977 to 1978, and district governor from 1997 to 1998. Jack focused his efforts on Rotary International Service and was a founding member of Medical Equipment and Supplies Abroad (MESA). He enjoyed travelling to Central America to help facilitate MESA‚??s projects while working with the local Rotary clubs. Jack was a founding member of Shawnee Presbyterian Church, Now Faith Christian Church, and a longtime Freemason. He enjoyed golfing, reading and playing bridge. He enjoyed many friendships, especially his coffee group. The family would like to thank his caring friends at Otterbein and his favorite restaurant, the east side Applebee‚??s.
Survivors include two sons, Jon B. (Ann) Goodnight, of Springfield, Mo., and Thomas (Janet) Goodnight, of Columbia Station; two daughters, Martha J. (Roger) Stinehart, of Columbus, and Susan E. (Philip) Crow, of Franklin, Tenn.; 16 grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; and a daughter-in-law, Patty Goodnight, of Lima.
Jack was preceded in death by a son, Scott M Goodnight; and a sister, Margaret (Warren) Hardy.
Services were held Saturday at Faith Christian Church. Burial was in St. Mathews Cemetery.
