Stolen vehicle leads high-speed chase on I-75 near Bluffton

BLUFFTON - A stolen 2006 Lincoln Zephyr led officers on a high-speed chase down Interstate 75  on Tuesday, according  to the Hancock County Sheriff's Office.

Deputy S. Lowery, of the Hancock County Sheriff's Office, said in a press release he stopped the stolen vehicle on state Route 15 eastbound near county Road 193. The vehicle took off from the traffic stop, turned around on county Road 196 and traveled westbound on state Route 15, turning onto Interstate 75 southbound.

The vehicle continued to flee, exceeding speeds of 110 mph. The Bluffton Police Department deployed a spike strip, puncturing the vehicle's front tire. The Zephyr finally stopped at the 140 mile marker near Bluffton.

Police identified the driver as James Newton, of Sharon, Pa. Deputies arrested him and transported him to the Hancock County Justice Center.

The Ohio State Highway Patrol also assisted in the incident.
