Fire damages house in Van Wert

VAN WERT - Van Wert Fire Department responded to a house fire that caused heavy damage Tuesday morning.

The fire occurred at 115 E. 2nd St., Van Wert; the fire department received the call at 10:49 a.m. A firefighter there said the house sustained heavy damage in the kitchen and upstairs areas. It briefly rekindled around 3:30 p.m. but was quickly extinguished.

No one was inside the home at the time. The fire is under investigation.

The two-story home is owned by Nicole Murray and valued at $38,570, according to the Van Wert County Auditor's website.
