2nd woman guilty in day care fraud

LIMAAnother woman pleaded guilty to her role in a day care fraud scheme.Desmeen L. Spence-Williams, 28, pleaded guilty Monday to complicity to commit forgery, complicity to commit theft, both fifth-degree felonies, and complicity to commit theft, a misdemeanor. A date for sentencing had not been set. Spence-Williams was one of five women charged in a day care fraud scheme that prosecutors said cost taxpayers more than $170,000 a year. State agents raided the home day care operations of Nekosha James-Mitchell, who they said was the principal player. They accused James-Mitchell of including the other four women in the fraud that included forging records and getting people to lie about watching children.James-Mitchell operated two home-based day care centers, All Together We Grow at 431 S. Prospect St. and Kosha’s Kinder Care at 1137 Simon St.
