VAN WERT — Police officials weren't saying much about what led a Van Wert man to stab his brother in the neck outside a Van Wert bar early Wednesday.Lt. Doug Weigle, of the Van Wert Police Department, said the department received a 911 call around 2:30 a.m. Wednesday from Caleb S. Mech, 26, of Van Wert, saying that his brother, Isaac M. Mech, 22, of Van Wert, had been stabbed in the neck.“I don't have any information to release at this point about what led to the confrontation,” Weigle said. The stabbing reportedly happened in an alleyway near CJ's Side Pocket, 123 N. Washington St. Weigle said an employee at the venue reported seeing the two brothers leave together just before the incident.“She didn't seem to have much information,” Weigle said.Isaac Mech was initially taken to Van Wert County Hospital and then transferred by medical helicopter to Lutheran Hospital in Fort Wayne, Ind., where he was listed in critical condition Wednesday, Weigle said.Investigators from the Police Department's detective bureau interviewed Caleb Mech and he reportedly confessed to stabbing his brother.Caleb Mech was arrested and charged with felonious assault, a second-degree felony.Weigle said Caleb Mech's only other known run-in's with local law enforcement were for criminal damaging and a pending case of domestic violence, both in Van Wert Municipal Court, he said.
